President Claims Government Was in Charge of BP All Along

The White House press conference has just wrapped up.  It was primarily focused on the Gulf Oil Spill (which is appropriate.)  Here’s a recap, with comments:

“Underscores the urgent need for our nation to develop clean, renewable energy.”  We agree, Mr. President.  So why is that development not happening?  President Obama goes on to inform us that the House is preparing such a bill, and that the Senate is working on a bipartisan bill regarding renewable energy as well, to “Answer this challenge once and for all.”  Sorry, Sir, but that’s largely rhetoric.  This is the moment of conception for our nation’s move to Green energy.  It’s hardly a “once and for all” circumstance.  On that score, we’ll see what the bills hold.

Now on to the oil spill.  ”We are relying on every expert… we will take ideas from anywhere.”  Apparently not, Mr. President.  Protect The Ocean has been stonewalled by your EPA as well as the US Coast Guard at every turn.  We have attempted to provide information as to the dangers of pouring Corexit into the ocean, but been ignored.  On several occasions, promises of return phone calls came back empty.  Even the suggestion of putting a delivery pipe on the one which has a valve installed on it (so as to collect all of that oil and reduce pressure to the others) went unheeded and unanswered.   But wait, it gets better. BP, the Emperor, Has No Clothes! Obama, Take Charge!

For over a month now, BP has been tromping around with seeming impunity on our marshes, beaches and waters.  The oil giant has gone so far as to pay nothing more than lip service when the EPA finally ordered them to find something less toxic than Corexit.  We spoke with Bruce Gebhardt, with U.S. Poly., the manufacturers of Dispersit.  They were asked for a bid, basically how quickly they could deliver some product, and how quickly they could deliver over 50,000 gallons per day of their water-based dispersing agent.  Though Dispersit has been poised for just such an event, no order was placed.  An even less toxic agent that BP has already ordered, 100,000 gallons of Sea Brat, sits on a loading dock waiting for BP to take delivery. Gulf Oil Spill: Point By Point, An Alternative Perspective

With the President’s visit to the Gulf Coast yesterday, it seems more of the U.S. has begun taking the Gulf Oil Spill seriously.  People are getting excited, waxing political, and suggesting solutions.  Some of those solutions are downright frightening, making us glad that person isn’t in charge of the response to the situation.  Here are some points to consider.  We welcome your thoughts and opinions, whether you agree or disagree.

1) The use of underwater dispersal agents has to stop IMMEDIATELY.  BP is trying to do an “out of sight, out of mind” tactic. The oil spill is just as toxic on the ocean’s floor, but it’s a mile or more beneath the surface that way.

The rest of these are presented in no particular order: [Read more...]
